Northeast Ohio Medical University doubled their fundraising numbers with GiveCampus

Every year, Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) asks students to help fundraise for their free clinic. And in 2020, funding the clinic was more critical than ever. NEOMED turned to GiveCampus.

NEOMED partnered with GiveCampus in 2018

In 2020, when COVID-19 hit, students couldn’t host their annual in-person Casino Night fundraiser. They decided to launch an online social fundraising campaign using the GiveCampus platform instead.

Social fundraising came naturally to the NEOMED students:

They quickly built a team of 40 advocates

Social-media-savvy med students quickly spread news of the online campaign to their networks.

Leveraged gamification features to drive engagement

Advocates shared matches and challenges in social channels, appealing to the competitive nature of their peers.

Expanded their reach—exponentially

Fifty of the donors to this campaign—some 33%—were not even in the NEOMED donor database prior to launching the appeal.

Advocacy wins the day

NEOMED doubled their fundraising numbers and gave their free clinic its biggest financial boost yet by effectively leveraging the GiveCampus suite of online advocacy tools.

50%

of donors were newly acquired

39% data point
43%

of dollars raised came from new donors

48%

of gifts were generated via advocacy

Our original idea was to use our phonathon network and just build a landing page for the campaign. But using GiveCampus added a sense of professionalism with the video, matches, challenges, and other features. It helped motivate people that weren’t already familiar with the clinic to donate.
